Fate/EXTELLA is a hack and slash anime action game. Fight through hordes of enemies while experiencing a story based on the popular anime and game series.
Fate/EXTELLA is a classic hack and slash game in the style of Dynasty Warriors. Levels generally consist of an army of faceless opponents which the player tackles single-handedly with a range of outlandish weapons and skills before a final boss appears. While nothing new, the action is handled well enough. The main hurdle for potential players is the huge amount of unexplained backstory. Fate/EXTELLA is part of the Fate series which includes a story stretched out across various animes, mangas and video games. New players will generally be confounded by the plot and characters on show. Another possible issue is the obvious target audience. Characters wear not-entirely-appropriate battle costumes, a dress up mode is on offer and most of the characters fit fairly neatly into anime cliches. Fans of the series will probably enjoy what is clearly a very niche product but the actual game on offer isn't really up to a standard which would appeal to a general audience.
Fate/EXTELLA is a fairly mediocre game. Fans of the series will be the only ones to actually enjoy the world and story, while the gameplay can become tiresome.
